The power went out around ten p.m. and didn't return for three days. I headed south to my parent's home the next afternoon, living in a 45 degree home without electricity or heat is less then ideal, especially with a five week and two year old! I also realized I wouldn't fair so well previous to the invention of electricity. {most homes in the United States were fitted with electricity from about 1905-1910 on.} Hence the invention of the canopy bed, which provided both an extra layer of warmth and privacy. Used today for more glamorous reasons, here are a few of my favorites..

ReplyDeleteWe had a crazy storm in Dallas,12 inches of really wet, picture book snow. It wrecked havoc with the power lines. No electricity for 3 days. I am hear to tell you that when the temps hit the high 40's inside our house, I declared myself fed up. I was no pioneer, and creature comforts like electricity and heat's a must.
I never thought to hang blankets off of my canopy bed... but know I know in the next "lights out".

Great post. You know what, I always associate these types of treatments with decidedly traditional (read 'stodgy' ) interiors. However, you have found some fabulous images that prove this is absolutely not the case. In fact, the drapery makes for an elegant, statement making focal point. Plus, who doesn't want to curl up in a private tent!

ReplyDeleteI am so sorry that your wee one is having a hard time with acid reflux. Have you tried putting a slightly flattened rolled towel under the top of the mattress so your baby's body is on a slight incline, head is at the highest point. This helped my little one's reflux.
