The peek of tres chic

Hello All! Happy Monday. I'm over here today on Samantha's wonderful, inspiring blog sharing some of my favorite picks for Spring! Eek, I'm tempted to get an easter bunny for the kiddos, but I know I shouldn't..they are pooping machines!

Love the look

Happy Friday! It feels good to be back to blogging more this week. I had the pleasure of meeting the delightful owners and staff of Delicious Designs in Hingham, Ma yesterday. They commented on how much they enjoy the Shelter fashion posts, so I thought I'd share one today!

I'm very ready to wear white jeans. I actually did a Shelter poll last year and my readers overwhelming said they don't follow the labor day/memorial day rule anymore. I guess it is passé! I may have to break out my white jeans this weekend, it's actually going to reach a balmy 50 degrees here. Sometimes simple outfits look the best. You really can't go wrong with grey, white, tan and a little bling!!

Shelter - House Beautiful - "Send us a picture feature" - April 2014

I was THRILLED to see a photo of where and how I like to entertain my friends in this month's House Beautiful - "Send us a picture" feature! It is one of my favorite shelter publications, so to say it made my day is an under statement! A huge thank you to the talented photographer Ann-Marie Rollo and to House Beautiful. The black Chippendale chairs are painted in Clark+Kensington's 37A-5 Black Sand

Close Up

Here are a few of the other photos Ann-Marie took that evening!

Inspired: Pastels

With the Spring weather hopefully approaching in the Northeast I'm drawn to the pretty pale shades of pastel. Long associated with children these soft hues aren't just for wee ones but adults too. When used in lightly they are quite sophisticated!

Lyford Cay prettiness!

Hello, hello! I haven't dropped off the face of the earth. I was in NYC (ny was great!) last week for work and then I ended up getting the stomach bug...no fun. I'm happy to be home and healthy again. Believe it or not they are forecasting a snow storm in my area this week. I've been dreaming of warm weather for weeks now so I decided I need to share some uplifting prettiness today. Miles Redd mixed colorful hues and playful patterns in this Lyford Cay home.  I love the blend of watery blues, pops of color and seagrass rugs.

I've been drawn to pale aqua lately. I have a gallon of it I'm planning to use on the basement stairs leading down to my children's playroom. I also need to paint some wood floors soon!

Shelter Loves from NYC

Good Morning! I hope you are all having an amazing week! Sorry for the silence. I've been in NYC on business so my poor blog has been a bit neglected. I'm here visiting with the editors from some of my favorite design and fashion magazines including House Beautiful, Marie Claire, Glamour, and HGTV to name just a few. We're sharing some exciting news from Clark+Kensington paint. I'm looking forward to sharing the news with you all in the months to come!

I had some down time this am so I wanted to share a Shelter Loves post.

Here it goes:

1. Ranunculus are beautiful when grouped together tightly. I'd love to know where this stunning vase is from. Any thoughts?
2. Adrienne Vittadini's NY bedroom is both glamorous and refined.
3. This quote is so true!
4. I've been living in my waxed (leather looking) pants and suede booties this week.
5. I love this classic Chippendale design for a porch rail.
6. I wish I had more time to put my hair into pretty feminine braids and ponies. Gorge!
7. I adore classic black and white homes. I'm beginning to pull together some landscaping ideas for the front of my little house.

Shelter Loves....

Everyone goes through phases when they aren't inspired by much. They strike out while shopping, designing, writing whatever it may be. Lately, I'm feeling pretty inspired by the world around me. Vintage looks and brass/bronze hues top my list. I love when designs throw in something a little unexpected and "off beat". I always try to do the same.
Here are my loves this week!

1. I'm adoring this organic and slightly quirky foyer designed by Nate Berkus for Karlie Kloss. Via Vogue.

2. I'm heading to NYC next week to meet with home and fashion magazine editors to discuss a new and exciting venture with Clark+Kensington. (I'll share the details when I can!! - eek)
I purchased these loafers for my flight etc. They are super comfy and I'm currently loving royal blue details.

3. I try to wear an interesting ring every day!

4. Perfect. I love an organized spot to get ready!

5. I've been wearing blazers with t-shirts underneath lately. Again, it's unexpected, chic and comfy!

6. This is a beauty!

7. I've created quite a bit of the artwork around my house. I love the idea of painting a piece with thick layered paint on a canvas. You can use a putty knife to apply the paint!

Happenings..

Wow! How is it Thursday already? This week has been a whirlwind but filled with some great things! I was thrilled to attend a "social networking" speaking series on Tuesday morning at the Boston Design Center. My dear friend and fabulous designer Erin Gates of Elements of Style hosted the event and interviewed Anne and Suysel of Tilton Fenwick design. It was so nice to finally put a face with their names. They had lots of great tips for everyone and were sweet hearts. Their new fabric is line is gorge!! Check it out at Duralee if you haven't had a chance yet. I brought almost every sample back to my office this week. I have a number of amazing projects under way. I can't wait to incorporate this their designs!

I'm also thrilled to announce the pre-release of Erin's new design book. Erin and I go way back. We met while working together at a design firm in Boston ten years ago. (I'm not sure where the time goes!!). Erin slaved over her book. It was truly a labor of love and I have no doubt this mini-memoir/design book will be filled with humor and beauty. I'm pre ordering my copy this weekend. Purchase a pre-release version here today! It will arrive October 7th.

Congratulations Erin!! I'm very proud of you lady! xoxoxo

A little Friday fun....

Who is your favorite James Bond actor?? I think I'm tied between Sean and Roger!
I've always loved James Bond movies. The set designs are so sexy and well designed....I'd love to design a "man town" or swanky living room using one of the set designs inspiration.

George Lazenby – On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
Timothy Dalton – The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill.
Daniel Craig –  Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.

Ken Adam was the design genius behind most the James Bond sets in the 60's and 70's. Here is a peek at some of his sketches and photos of the some of the movie sets. Pretty fab!

Well that concludes my history lesson! Wishing you a swanky weekend! Peace out...

Cottage (not really a cottage) love #11

I came across this Charleston Home via Pinterest. I liked some of the details, especially the herringbone kitchen floors and slightly organic children's rooms. Read more on this home here.  I've always wanted to visit Charleston!
