A Peek Inside: Dorothee Schumacher's home

There are many things I love about my job, but I'd have to say one of the most rewarding aspects of being an interior designer is capturing my client's personalities with their home design. I want their homes to reflect their style, tastes, interests etc. etc., not mine. Oh, I may recommend an idea that they hadn't thought of (because that's also my job) but I strive to please them throughout the process! I never tire of receiving a call from a thrilled client when they come home to their design installation for the first time!

I always enjoy popping over to the The Selby. He does such an amazing job of not only composing  gorgeous images, but each creative photo captures the essence of the person who resides in the space. I was recently drawn to the home of fashion designer Dorothee Schumacher. Stylistically my tastes are sort of all over the place. This mind set affects both my wardrobe and my home selections. I tend to stay very focused while creating and devising concepts for my clients. I of course throw their designs off a bit with unexpected patterns and textures and my client's actually appreciate being pushed out of their comfort zone a little. (key word being "little") but for myself, I like to experiment. One day I may feel a little Boston preppy, the next coastal chic, the next slightly bohemian. I think the strongest designs blend a few styles seamlessly. Today I'm feeling California Cool. I read this weekend that January 23rd is supposedly the most depressing day of the year. I'm not sure if that's true or not but the rainy, raw weather, certainly doesn't help. No complaints here, I'll take this winter over last year any day!!
Today I'm drawn to fresh, warm, colorful styles, that use both modern and classic elements. The two homes below are from CA home + design magazine. The first space is by designer Vanessa De Vargas

Gray and Glamorous

Although designer Lisa Martensen's home was featured and photographed two years ago in D Magazine. I still love her freshly curated collection of furniture and feminine objects. And her use of varying shades of gray? Are simply and subtly glamorous!

as I promised

I promised to share more of Mona Ross Berman's work yesterday. Aren't you glad I did? I love her use of color and pattern. She touches on all the details beautifully. It actually reminds me a bit of my own style, I guess it makes as to why I like it!!

I'm using a very similar rug on a project right now! It's so graphic and fun.

Rose Cummings Zebrine wallpaper can be a tough sell for a client! I think I have to use this in the powder room when I move. I haven't grown tired of Zebrine since first spying it about five years ago.
