Crushing on: Burl wood

I can hear my Mom right now: "See, I told you". About ten years ago I painted over a burled wood or at least a piece that looked like burl wood. It was pretty but at the time I wanted glossy black. I'm kind of kicking myself about it but it's not the end of the world. Remember when everything in a room was painted?? The pieces sort of all screamed for the same amount of attention.. I now cringe if anyone uses the word "Hollywood Regency" to describe how they want a room to look. Yes, it's a great period, but a room full of any one look is just too much for me. I prefer more layered spaces that borrow from various time periods. DO NOT get me wrong, I still love painted furniture and accessories. The paint is barely dry from my last painting project. I am however preferring rooms with at least one natural wood piece. Burl wood is on my radar. What is it exactly? It is cut from burls, which is old tree growth. It grows quickly and abnormally and is usually loved for it's interesting pattern, texture and color. Here are some beautiful examples. And Mom, maybe you should get that burl wood dining table from Williams Sonoma Home for your dining room? I'm loving love the look! (wink, wink)

I've been drooling over this Grant Gibson designed dining room for about four years now! It is still a favorite for sure!
