Push The Envelope - P + T Interiors

As I've mentioned in past posts, I'm drawn to an array of design sensibilities..but I always strive to include something unexpected and exciting in my work...I often achieve this concept with dramatic lighting, graphic prints, found objects, color and interesting art. The images pictured here by NYC based P and T interiors do just that; a bit of avant garde goes a long way...

Where I'd like to....

COOK THIS WEEK...
I'm starting a new weekly post on Tuesdays..dubbed "Where I'd like to"... Like most design junkies I'm constantly perusing magazines and the web. Over the past few years, I've compiled three large "looks books" and folder upon folder of photos and tear sheets..So I thought I would share a new {some will be fresh + some will be classic favorites} space with you each week. Enjoy!
This week I'm pining over this dreamy kitchen. Maybe it's because my kitchen is dated and dysfunctional {eventually I hope to have the funds to perfect it} but for now I just tear droves of photos from my favorite magazines, dream and sketch.
* The two things I would tweak in this kitchen are the lights over the island and the seating set up. I would place three large, evenly spaced pendants over this hefty island, instead of two..I also love the concept of the modern, comfy stools, but there isn't enough leg room provided in this photo..
* I've always wanted to have an over sized multifunctional island. I envision it being the "hub of the home", for food prep, eating, socializing, home work etc. This island is great - love the look of the casters.

Friday - This week's finds...

Want some color in your life? Check out these great, graphic Missoni rugs from Amara... {they are available domestically}. I am also crazy about these beautifully, colorful Moroccan rugs {below} I found via I Suwannee this week, so inspiring and a great starting point for almost any room...

Moroccan rugs pictured below available via the wonderful world of ebay

I received The Home Port Collection's catalog yesterday, pictured are my favorites. I love this fretwork style mirror {the price is great to boot -$180}. I've also long coveted Nanna Ditzel's hanging wicker chair, {I've seen this knock off before in Domino etc.} right now I'm imagining, sitting in this hanging chair, on a warm summer evening, with a glass of wine in hand ...{$220}

One of each, PLEASE...

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE having a little boy, but sometimes I envy how amazingly cute some of the little girl's clothing is...This line is by Matilida Jane. Host a trunk show, and walk away with a few goodies for your little one....these pieces are from last season.

Mix it up - Enlarge tight quarters..

The key to making a small space look larger is to layer, layer, layer...This home in Boston's Beacon Hill did just that by mixing, old items with new, large pieces with small, and found objects with unique art work.. Create a number of vignettes within a room, each "special" moment will visually expand the space.

TO DRESS OR NOT TO DRESS...

A clean contemporary cornice, essentially hides hardware

If privacy and day lighting aren't an issue, clean, bare windows can beautifully exhibit the architectural features of your home. This look is modern + simple.

There are countless ways to "treat" your windows....I've tried to cover an array of great ideas and styles..I love all of the looks chosen for one reason or another....I've also purposely strayed from the "over-done drapery" . Enjoy + good luck. {please feel free to send me an email with any ??}

These balloon shades are quite contrary to the above image, but they add a dramatic, feminine touch to this young girl's room.

I love bathrooms that feel more like a living space. This floor to ceiling drape is hung on a rod with rings, and ends in a dramatic puddle....

An elegant cornice with tied back drapes

Graphic, decorative banding

Woven shades are a nice way to allow filtered light into your space

Decorative glass shelving, creates a sculptural element

Over-sized, gauzy roman shades

Clean, striped, roman shades. Vertical stripes add height to a room.

The banding detail on this roman adds a graphic touch {notice the repeated band on the bed skirt, design is in the details!}

This elegant floor to ceiling sheer, appears to be hung from a track above the ceiling plane {this is a great trick, if you have the opportunity to build-out your space}

Floor to ceiling drapes, with a pinch-pleat detail

Frame your door with long, room heightening drapes

The layered look, pull down shade + drapes
