Where'd I'd like to

Relax with my family

There are a number of reason's I'm drawn to this image..For one, the quality of light is wonderful. Natural light lifts a space like nothing else. Secondly, this dining area feels attainable, lived in and realistic. And finally, I love the dialogue between the rustic farm table and the sculptural Eames chairs.

Welcome Home

Ahhh, the entry or more formally referred to as the foyer..It's the last room you {whether it be you or a guest} see before departing and the first room you are greeted with upon arriving. The foyer should set the tone for your entire home both functionally and aesthetically. So let's look at what most of these spaces have in common.

1. A place to momentarily drop your keys and mail {the key word being momentarily - be weary of the clutter bug}
2. A mirror of some sort, looking glasses are good for two reasons. For one, they visually expand the space, but more importantly mirrors allow for a quick glimpse of your pretty face.
3. A seat! The perfect spot to take shoes off and put shoes on.
4. Lighting, whether it be a table lamp, ceiling mounted fixture, a sconce or all three; good lighting is crucial. {and remember layered light is the most appealing}
5. A beautiful table-scape or a "moment" for flowers, found objects, artwork, comfy pillows...there are countless creative options.
6. Storage for the necessities of life!

A thank you to Ivy Lane. I knew Tom Scheerer's work but hadn't visited his site in a while, see her blog for a recent post on the designer.

HAVE A SUNNY WEEKEND!

Image: Photography: UK Based James Merrell

Friday - This week's finds..

Ali Wentworth and George Stephanopoulos's Georgetown home was featured in the Washington Post this week. {I really should say their children's room, and play room were featured. Cleary they didn't want to share the rest of their home, do you blame them?}

Their daughter's room. {the girls share a king sized bed}

REHAB

Before

I have a passion for vintage furniture. As a designer, I clearly love transformations, so when the two come together with a bit of sweat equity. I'm thrilled. Here's recent rehab of my own.
I found this baby on the side of the road..a little paint, coral velvet and {also a favorite} nickel nail heads...Voila drab is fab...
