Too Much Stuff?

How much is too much? {above image} I just spent the better half of three days going through my closet and son's old clothes to prep for a huge "boutique" consignment sale north of Boston. I think my new motto will be quality not quantity..I had one too many couldn't pass up the price and fleeting purchases in my giveaway pile! Don't get me wrong, I adore clothing and fashion, but it's the Clutter - I can do without. I could deal with any of the closets below, but I still ask myself, would I wear all this stuff? or should I put some of the cash towards say - my children's future! {the true test will be tonight at the preview sale! - check out the sale if you live in the area, a percentage of the proceeds go to charity}

Kelly Wearstler's closet

I'd take this closet {with the Kelly Wearstler} rug shown above ANYDAY!

Love the simplicity of this idea. Kids grow so quickly and trash everything, so I try not to over buy for my little ones..

Shoe storage? yes please!

Oooo that's a toughie! I notice that I only wear about 30% of my clothes on a regular basis and the rest are either sentimental or "I'm sure there will be a time when this will be the perfect outfit so I have to keep it"

Purging my closet always makes me feel much lighter!

I don't do well with clutter either and I should adopt the quality over quantity philosophy. I would LOVE any of these closets. What a dream!

Right with you on quality over quantity it's the excution.... I find everything i put in the give away pile is a crap purchase- the quality items 9 x's out of 10 are long time keepers.

Too much stuff. We all have too much. I certainly don't have as much as the gal in the first photo. Holy crow.

My goal is to clean out my closet too... really soon. Maybe while I have a glass of wine?

Good luck with your sale.

This post just proves that a girl CAN have too many shoes! But never enough shoe storage! Thanks for sharing these pics.

ugh, no. style does not equal an obscene amount of stuff.

I couldn't agree more. I have a whole day scheduled tomorrow with my favorite organizer to do every closet in the house! Helpful to have an unattached party so you can get rid of it and move on. Thank for sharing the beautiful pics.

the top closet is definitely too much! i like the idea of "a place for everything and everything in its place" when it comes to my wardrobe. wouldn't built-in shoe storage be heavenly?

I'm drawn to some of the closets because it's easy to see what you have rather than having things that you can't see so don't use. Most of these definitely have too much stuff. The "Unclutterer" blog has an eye opening and inspiring post about "The Red Velvet Rope" test that is a must read for both deciding what to purge and what can be brought into your house.

I totally agree! I've been cleaning out my own closets, tired of all the clutter. Although it's nice to have that new pair of shoes, it seems that clean empty spaces is what I am really craving right now...

I agree that quality is much more essential than quantity. I think sometimes having too much is not advisable especially when there is limited space in the house. I love the shoe storage (the last photo). It can be turned into a clothes drawer when the owner is planning to get rid of most shoes. Thanks for sharing.
