thoughts on home - 9.17.12

Hello loves. I hope you had a great weekend. I don't have much time to read my favorite blogs (side bar) never mind discover newbies but the other day I stumbled upon A House in the Hills. You may have seen these images on Pinterest or somewhere in the blogosphere but it was too fantabulous NOT to post! I LOVE jewels and baubles. Again, another pinterest obsession of mine but my collection (not as amazing as Sarah's) has gotten a bit out of control and is surely a tad disorganized!! I'm drawn to creative people so I got swept up with Sarah's blog for a while one morning. If you'd like a visual treat, be sure to look for her blog post on her gorgeous wedding photographs, dress, day etc. It's inspiring (even to a girl who is "almost" - 3 weeks and counting divorced.) I love, to know that "true" love exists! I guess once a romantic, always a romantic! (and trust me that doesn't mean I'll be running down the aisle never mind dating seriously soon)

Sarah recently organized her jewelry collection. She did an amazing job, the details and sources are available on her blog. Her collection of baubles and jewels is beautiful isn't it? Revamping my jewelry storage will be the first order of business for me when I move! I'm going to set it up in my dresser in my temporary digs, I figure it will be easy to move when I find my new nest. Stay tuned for photos!! Happy Monday. I hope it's a great week for you. xx

Thoughts on home...

I've decided to include a weekly feature post simply titled "thoughts on home". As you know I'm moving, in one month from today actually. Holy Shiz, that date has crept up on me. I'll take any packing/moving advice you have, and thanks in advance for that...I am going to be staying somewhere temporarily while I search for a house. I have a couple of details to button up but I really hope to find a place this winter!! As a single mama, an unlimited budget is something I don't have (and something I know most of my readers don't have)  I am keeping the faith that I'll find a wonderful spot for my two kiddies and me!

Onto the post...I've of course set up a Pinterest Board entitled "new home" that will include inspiration shots and deets on my thoughts. Feel free to follow along..

One of the first spaces I'll need to set up is my home office. I eventually want to rent an office space in a quaint town but as long as my children are in childcare/preschool, that's not happening!! I currently love the idea of using a large over sized farm table as a desk. They're ideal because they are often too narrow to dine on but are rustic enough to take a little abuse.  Farm tables can often be found at Flea markets for a reasonable price. A large surface is key for a designer because we need a multifunctional work area to read plans, sketch and look at a slew of finish and fabric samples.

I love the balance of sophisticated feminine details and simplicity in this shot.

Restoration Hardware has the best selection of tables and this desk could work really well because it's actually a desk, and includes storage.
I will absolutely include pretty organization and gold and white accessories a la Aerin's Lauder style. (obsessed) I love. love, love her entire office space!! A close second idea to the wood table would be a gold leaf X base desk, like the one below but for me right now the wooden desk is just more dare I say, practical.

Captured

I went to New York for an extended weekend. It was a whirlwind but amazing time. Fashion week began the night I arrived so the city was abound with fashionistas. I flew down to meet a very sweet friend who was kind enough to invite me to stay with him at Andaz Hotel. (a peaceful escape from the craziness). We fit so much into this trip. Here's a short photographic journey of some of the things I did and sites I saw. I was also able to catch Book of Mormon on Broadway! I know this sounds cliche, but I LOVE NY. It's one of my favorite places to visit and is only a 45 minute flight from Boston.

From Top Left to Right:

1. Street artists painting the doors of Hotel Andaz. (Where I stayed)
2. Detail of sculptural at The Met
3. Tory Burch lucite and brass door pull detail. (Meat Packing District location)

NYC - Day

1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9
Good day! I hope you're having a great one! After all that talk of fashion photographer Mario Testino, I thought I was due for a fashion post. That and I need to pack to today for a quick trip to NYC. I'm heading there for a little dinner, a show, and some inspirational work for Shelter! Works for me! Here's a typical outfit I may wear during the day. I need to be comfortable but of course stylish for all the walking I'll be doing! Stayed tuned for the "typical" evening outfit! p.s. loving violet + orange + navy together right now!

Part II - Mario Testino at home

Images: Vogue

Inspired - Mario Testino

I love photography! In fact it's on my bucket list to someday take a class and learn more about this art form. I'm very much looking forward to the Mario Testino exhibit at the MFA in Boston this Fall. He's such a creative and influential force. (read more below) It opens on 10.21. I always feel a bit anxious this time of year. The past two Fall seasons have been ones of drastic change and heartbreak for me. I'm focusing on the positive and hoping this Fall will be quite the opposite and turn out amazing. I'm moving from my home, so on that front a big change is in store. This exhibit will definitely be a positive to look forward to. In fact I think I may use some of his work as a starting point and design concept for my new place. (which I need to find, something else causing me a bit of trepidation)

And to all of you who got your kiddies off to school for their first day today, hope it went well!!!

I'm looking forward and remembering: "let your faith be bigger then your fear" and everything will turn out okay!! even better then okay!

I would love to have one of his fashion photographs in my home!
