Inspired - Ruthie Sommers

There's no doubt that Ruthie Sommers is one of my favorite designers, so when fresh, new images of her work pop up in a magazine I'm a happy girl. Here's a recent article in Veranda magazine of Ruthie's advice on being a decorator/interior designer. Her design details are feminine, unexpected, colorful and perfectly executed!

Ruthie Sommers in Veranda

I have long loved Ruthie Sommer's design work. I was thrilled to see her latest project in this month's Veranda. The entire July-August 2017 issue does not disappoint. Her mix of prints and unexpected color choices are beautiful. I too love to use unique palettes and we are not afraid of color over here at Shelter! This Newport, summer home (imagine-gah) was designed for a friend of Ruthies'. It is a perfect example of classic design with a modern twist. The vibrant contrasts and repeated patterns are fabulous!! Enjoy.....

al fresco + ginger jars

One of my favorite pleasures is dining outdoors. The weather has been perfect this month so we have been working outdoors and prepping the yard for entertaining. An easy way to add dimension and beauty to your outdoor table is to fill an array of blueware vases and ginger jars with gorgeous blooms. You can easily change the mood by adding subtle or brightly colored flowers. For a dramatic look, choose larger ginger jars and tall arrangements, for more intimate settings a selection (in an odd number) of small ginger jars would look beautiful and function well. This idea is simple but one of my favorites.

* If you are opting for larger arrangements, limit the number. It's always nice for guests to be able to see one another across the table.

Inspired = Soft Pink + Tan

I love the soft sophistication of combining pink and tan. The tan beautifully grounds the pink! It's a timeless look for interiors and fashionably works year round! The bottom living room photo is by designer Ruthie Sommers. I have long loved that animal print rug. I would LOVE it if one of my client's agreed!!

Sommer Lovin'

After this winter I could seriously contemplate living in L.A...It's not going to happen because my wonderful family and friends live on the East Coast. I'll take the next best thing - Photos of Ruthie Sommer's home. It's no secret, I love Ruthie's style. I was thrilled to see these fresh shots in House Beautiful this month. Her cheery color choices, mix of vintage, and custom furniture, and architectural motifs are just, well simply put: fabulous! Enjoy {even if you have seen it}!! {on a side note, I know I'm overdue and need to share some recent work, I am just finishing a few details on a couple jobs}

scalloped

I always try to layer my interior designs with pattern. Scalloping is a beautiful way to add femininity to your life.
