Deep Grey Diamond
Okay, so I had to return a West Elm rug today, it was in my living room but just wasn't holding up well! so now I need another rug {from W.E. - with my credit} and I'm torn. I love both the diamond and Chevron (zig-zag) look. I feel like the diamond looks a little fresher and would most likely hide stains better {I have a three and six month old}. So I ask you..Which do you prefer? Diamond or Zig-Zag?
If you read my blog regularly, it's going in my living room, {as seen here}which as quite a bit of dark brown..but I'm thinking of mixing in deep charcoal. My husband just painted the inside of my back door black and I'm loving the look, so I'm going to have him paint the inside of my front doors too! (oh btw. I used Zorro by C2 - it's a rich inky-grey black, love it!}
+ an update on my gallery style art wall. {PLEASE excuse the poor photography - I don't have much light in my foyer - when I'm done I'll have this professionally shot}
I'm almost finished with my art wall...It's a mix of high and low, some of the art is by my three year old son. Most of it is from various trips I've taken. I think artwork is the best thing you can buy when traveling {unframed that is}. I need to add two or three more pieces. {to the right side} I'm thinking I'll add a collage, and maybe a still life of flowers or something??? It's getting there! Oh and I'm definitely going to add one of these Suzanne Kasler for Ballard Designs antlers to the mix. {i was inspired by that from a photo of a previous post}
a couple close up of two pieces.

I'm obsessed with the zigzag and need to bite the bullet myself and just BUY IT! My vote is absolutely zigzag.
I would vote diamond! LOVE your art wall great job!!!!
I've been following for awhile and love your style (it reminds me of mine:) Anyway, I really like both but I would pick the diamond pattern. It's a great pattern and would great in your living room.

I vote for the zig zag because the diamond made me dizzy.
Personally loving the zig-zag! But very true about the diamond print hiding stains well. Either one is a great buy! LOVE your blog btw... :)

My vote goes for the zig zag rug. I actually ordered and then returned the diamond rug. The color was a little disappointing and I wasn't a fan of the itchy wool. I feel like you just can't go wrong with chevron!
I vote for diamonds, the zig-zag has become too trendy I think the diamonds will have more longevity. Kathysue
Julie...your wall art is coming along superbly..I love it..and love the fact that you have added some personal pieces from your little ones..gorgeous.
As for the rug...Im with you..LOVE both...I am more partial to the diamond shape one..only because its refreshingly different as the Zig Zag design has been seen so much in blogland lately..and is a bit overkill for me at the moment...but I do love the design of both. The Zig Zag makes a stronger statement which can be a good and bad thing..you dont want it to take away from your beautiful furniture pieces. Im sure either one you go with it is going to look fabulous...look forward to seeing it come together. Have a wonderful week xo
Thanks for all your comments..It's so funny how it's still split between the zig zag and diamond..If the diamond is itchy, I'm not sure if I can do it! hmmm I've got to choose soon, I don't like having a bare floor!
Zig zig is everywhere...do the diamond..
Hi, I like the diamond rug, and with the kiddies is probably a little more practical. I have a black door too, I think it adds a stylish touch! Btw, Im a new follower to your blog, love it :)
Truthfully I love all of those pictures and both rugs! But, I think the zigzag is my pick!

I agree that the chevron is a bit overdone..I think I may have to bite the bullet and drive to the store..or maybe wait a couple of weeks, maybe they'll come up with another rug that works with my home!
Go for the diamond. I love it and it will hide marks better. ( Mum of 4 so I know what you mean!!)
Oh, I forgot to say go with the black!
I have been going back and forth between the zigzag rug and a black and white striped rug from Ikea for my guest room, until I saw the diamond rug at Dash and Albert the price is great and its washable.
Great Blog & Style BTW!
I prefer the zigzag, which means you should probably go with the diamond... I tend to get Attached~
Actually, I love both, but I still vote for the chevron! Can't go wrong with either though!

Love your wall so far, I think my favorite part is that it has so many of your sons paintings! And I think you are right about the diamond rug, it will hide more stains for sure.
You must post pics when you get the new rug in!
I prefer the diamond as the chevron is becoming ubiquitous. Also I think the diamond is a more refined design.

I would pick the diamond rug - it would look gorgeous in your living room!
I redid mt TV room with the West Elm chevron carpet,you can view here http://blog.livelikeyou.com/?p=650
The carpet looks fantastic! From the images I've seen of your beautiful house-I would vote for the diamond carpet. Feels like the right vibe.
I ordered the zig-zag runner for my bathroom - what a huge impact that gorgeous, but simple, design makes in that room. I totally love it. I don't think you could go wrong there.
The Chevron pattern - definitely! A beautiful rug.
I'm always drawn to diamond patterns.
I just spec-ed that zig zag rug for my sister's living room. She has a border collie and two cats in addition to the family. Holding up well so far and it is my favorite thing in the space. Go for the Z! Great price too!

I will always love chevron, but the diamond absolutely looks fresher!
I have the zig zag rug and i love it. However the diamond one is darker...if you have a little one and worried about it, that might work better.

The diamond is more sophisticated and less loud and less trendy. The zigzag seems more appropriate for a children's room to me.
Oh and I forgot to mention I do have the diamond runner in my walk-in closet - it has a coarse, durable texture underfoot - definitely not soft but I personally found that the softer, especially cotton, rugs I had attracted dirt much more quickly and just looked "worn out" more quickly.
