Flamant

Blog posts are pretty telling...my apologies for the one sided inspiration lately. I guess you can tell where my mind has been! A little pink goes a long way. I love Flamingos, even when they're gilded! ;)
A classic version by Illustrator John Gerrard Keulemans

A modern version found here! (all her art is pretty cool)

we can't forget the neo-traditionalist.
And because these are both so FUN!

this green grass is looking so good to me right now! Boston is beyond grey and there are fallen trees all over the place from the storm...depressing....

I could scoop up half of Tory's site right now!

Shelter Loves 2.27.13

Whoo hoo, it's Wednesday already!? Here's what I'm obsessing over this week! I have my fundraiser Gala this weekend, so I'm putting the finishing touches on my look! Here's the rundown of my loves....

1. I love fun over sized bauble rings. I could use a new ring and this oversized gem would be a perfect addition to my collection.
p.s. - ShopBop is having a huge saving sale right now! (where the ring and booties are from)
2. I love and think heels are quite sassy but realistically day to day I wear skinny jeans and little booties, much like these! I have a Rag and Bone pair on my radar but I like these too, and they're less $$.
3. I'd live in this sweater with leggings and again..booties this Spring.
4. Tortoise!! I can't get enough of it. Necklace + Mirror
5. How adorable is this little pendant. ?? It would be perfection in a powder room!!
6. Emerson Fry's Spring line is live today!! Looks fab!!
7. I'll add a splash of color to my lips this weekend!! I find Nars gloss gives the right amount of plump to your pout.
8. I'm wearing my hair up this weekend, and I'm not sure if I'll go with a traditional chignon or try something a bit fresher and unexpected. Blake's hair looks beautiful here!
9. I adore a room a little girl can grow with, this one is nicely grounded with the hints of cocoa.

Inspired: relaxed and evolved

I've long loved this photo of Carolyn Murphy in her home. (She has since sold this house) This space feels a bit bohemian, a bit chic, and a bit beach side. I aim to design spaces that feel like they've evolved over time, with a mix of old and new, glamorous and hand crafted. Timeless, but fresh is the goal! And Carolyn? She's just gorgeous, I admire her effortless style and perfect body of course!!
This photograph looks like it could have been taken in the South of France

Mixing pillows like these from Amber's shoppe, will help you achieve this look at home! I recently suggested one to a client for a nursery project.

Palm Beach Style

For as long as I can remember I've wanted to retire someplace warm, I'm not wishing my life away but I figure there's no time like the present to start planning for tomorrow.  I love the colorful, vintage vibe that Palm Beach fashion and interior design style exudes.
You can bet in 30 years during the winter months, I'll be basking poolside sipping tequila kissed libations.  In any case there's no reason I can't channel this chic style all summer long! Below are the details and the links!

Shelter Loves 2.23.13

Good Morning, thought I'd sneak in a Saturday edition of "Shelter Loves" today. I'm obviously admiring all things Oscar inspired this week. Including this stunning but intriguing photo by Terry O'Neil of Faye Dunaway the morning after winning an Oscar in 1977 for Network.

"She isn't sure quite who she is any more. I waited for her to look away from the camera, and I got the shot. I look at this picture often, and I'm still so proud of it. It's still the best Oscar picture ever taken. And modern photographers should take that as a challenge."  - Terry O'Neil

2. You really can't go wrong with a classic black heel a la Faye Dunaway. They're timeless.

3. I'm attending a fund raising Gala next week. I'm looking forward to dressing up for a night on the town, ;). After I spend the day on book work today, ugh, I'm running out to find a pair of statement earrings like these emerald stunners.

4. Do you drink champagne? I do. This oversized bucket would look beautiful filled with chilled bubbly. I'd love to have an Oscar party some day, maybe when the kiddies are older.

5. I dream of having an entrance like this... I'd splash a little color on the front door, although the all white scheme is pretty.

6. NEVER!

7. I adore this sweet little straw clutch, it comes in natural and turquoise too.

I'm going to try and head to an Oscar nominated movie tonight! Did you have a favorite this year? I watched the classic Here Comes Mr. Jordan, 1941 last night. It won two academy awards. My goal is to watch 13 classic movies in 2013. I'm on number 3!

Happy Weekend! xx

Chic Surf Shack - Cottage Love #8

I'm a summer girl through and through so the thought of owning or escaping to a surf cottage warms my heart! This 850 sq foot surf shack proves good things do come in small packages!!

Perfect seating area!

this pic isn't the same home but it fits right in, so I included it! I also love the idea of a dark hallway surrounded by lighter rooms!

Love the Look

Hello loves, I'm never trying to be a downer over here on Shelter but the last few weeks have felt more like North Dakota then Boston. I'd love to post Springy "love the look" inspiration much like last weeks but the reality of it is, it's frigid here.  I think what really kills me is the wind, it's soooo windy lately! It blows right through this Northern girl's clearly wimpy ass.. ;) When I'm not in my Lulu Lemon yoga pants (honestly) you'll catch me wearing a LOT of black this time of year. I can't wear my ballet flats yet but hopefully I'll break them out soon.
Can O.P. (right image) do any wrong fashion wise? I always love her look, I guess it helps that she's drop dead gorgeous and a twig! She's always an aesthetic inspiration. Above is a typical "look" I'd wear to a client meeting, minus that Givenchy bag of course, don't get me wrong I'd LOVE to own one but I'd have to do some serious penny pinching to justify the purchase at this point!! On a positive note, the one great thing about this time of year??  The sales, you can score some serious clothing deals right now. I'd take a beach over a sale any day. Keep Warm. xx

Thoughts on home...

I adore this kitchen snapshot, it's the perfect blend of old and new.  I especially like the black glass cabinetry and the beautifully displayed silver collection on the fridge.
I think a home feels more complete when it's infused with a bit of history. Vintage finds are more easily found now with the growth of Etsy, and 1st dibs but I still love to scour flea markets when I have a free Sunday, especially during the warmer months.

Sterling silver and silver plate serve and barware look beautiful layered with everyday collections.
I've decided when I move I'd like to invest in some new flatware. I want to ditch the set I had when I was married, it was one of the only items my ex contributed to our new home together and he had no interest in taking it when he split. I might buy an inexpensive bamboo inspired set but I also want to begin to collect monogrammed silver (+ silver plate) pieces.. I could go the formal route and collect only "R"'s for Richard (my last name) but I also think it could be fun to collect E's, (it seems to be a popular letter in vintage flatware, J's and C's). (our first initials)

This Etsy site has an evolving collection of flatware and vintage housewares.

Think Spring

Spring, spring, spring! I have lots on my mind right now, but don't we all? What really inspires me this time of year are visions of crocus buds, shopping with my daughter for a sweet Easter dress and the occasional 50 degree day when I can run outdoors.  Collecting pretty pictures on Pinterest when I have a free moment is also a form of escapism! Here's a mood board of my recent outdoor inspired pins. I love the timelessness of classic landscaping and al fresco dining! Simple white blooms, neatly trimmed boxwood, metal furniture, zinc tables, and pea stones will all create this look.

Love the look

Bonjour! I was torn between which fashion image to share today, but since it's 55 degrees in Boston, I thought I'd go with the springier look!  I think these two are adorable.....Really and those shoes??? LOVE, especially the red checked pair. I couldn't find a comparison that would do those justice, so I opted for the cork ones..they're pretty cool in their own way. xx (all links below)

Shelter Loves...

3/4/5/6

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY LOVES!! I'M ADORING EVERYTHING STICKY SWEET AND PINK + RED THIS WEEK!

1. Lee Radziwill's home. (younger sister to Jackie O.) - that pink sofa is precious. It looks so beautifully custom tailored.
2. I adore pink + red. Dress: Issa London
3. On my long time wish list are pink heart D.Porthault sheets. One beauty of being single? You can decorate with as many pink feminine details as you'd like.
4. Adorable earrings. I live in various studs during the weekday.
5. I may need to break down and buy a monogrammed Clare Vivier duffle bag.
6. I bought a sweater at J. Crew that is this identical color last winter. I wear it often, it's especially cheery in the dead of winter.

Knock, knock

I finally feel like we're creeping slowly towards the Spring. (I'm a bit delusional, this is Boston) It was 45 degrees out today, so lots of the snow has melted away..Yay! 'Tis the season to start to think about refreshing your home indoors and out.  I've shared some of my favorite entryways. I tried to include something for everyone: Classic, clean, nautical, country, chic, you name it! I've also shared some sources and ideas to transform your entrance! I love a strong first impression! *everytime I see seafoam door perfection I think of Miles Redd's fab entrance!

Happenings....

around here...
I've been busy busy trying to work, it's been tough because due to the blizzard. The schools are still closed, so my kiddos are home. Here's a snapshot of an inspiration board for a project presentation I recently finished up...It's sort of feminine glamour inspired with french details, and beautiful finishes such as a brass stair rail, marble, charcoal grey velvet, and antiqued mirror!

Here's a peek at a kitchen photo shoot I just had, we used a dense soapstone for the counter tops. It will stand up better to stains then regular soapstone. I was thrilled with the results! image: Sarah Winchester
Here are some fabrics for another project I'm working on. I spent last Wednesday at the Design Center. I'm not sure of the exact direction yet but I think we'll incorporate, camel, cream, and hermes orange for sure! I'm also still loving hand blocked and batik prints. This look would look gorge with white washed or pickled wooden floors!

And finally a snapshot my good friend took of her street. The coastal towns, including mine, were hard hit by Friday's storm. Everyone is hoping to have their power turned on soon. The poor linemen have been working night and day to restore power and order. I've never seen so many fallen trees in my life. In fact there's a large one laying in our front yard!

Hovering...

I always try to keep in mind the importance of changing your perspective from time to time. I use this technique with my designs, outlook on life, and while enjoying art. The following artists capture the world from above beautifully don't you think?
